The Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb was founded in 1954 with the aim of monitoring, documenting and promoting events, styles and appearances in contemporary art. Since its founding, the museum was housed in a baroque palace in the old city center.
In 2003, the construction of a new museum building was started on one of the main roads, an important link between the historic core and New Zagreb.
In the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art today there are about 12,000 works of contemporary art, works of domestic and foreign authors created after 1950. The museum contains the following collections: Collection of Drawings, Graphics, Posters and Papers, Film and Video Collection, Photo Collection, Media Art Collection, Sculpture Collection and the Collection of Painting.
